Working with temperatures between 5,000F and 50,000F, welders have the skills & knowledge to successfully build and repair any type of metal using a variety of processes. There is plenty of room for opportunity and skill building with this trade.

Responsibilities

  • Melt and fuse metals
  • Join piping & metal structures in a range of construction & manufacturing industries
  • Use various welding machines & basic tools
  • Read and interpret blueprints & weld symbols

What You’ll Need

Entrance Requirements

If you don’t have Grade 12, contact Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trades Commission to have your academic qualifications assessed.

Apprenticeship Program:
Approximately 3 years, includes Safety, UA Local Apprenticeship and Provincial Apprenticeship training, as well as 270 hours of technical training and 1,530 hours of on-the-job training each year. Journeyperson certificate awarded after successful completion. As an apprentice, you also earn while you learn.
