Sheet metal workers lay out, fabricate, assemble, weld, install and service a variety of projects such as HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), industrial, kitchen and hospital equipment, and architectural work. A sheet metal worker requires highly specialized and up-to-date skills to accomplish the various tasks involved in the trade.

Responsibilities
- Read and interpret sketches and work specifications
- Lay out, measure and mark dimensions according to drawings & templates
- Work with computerized equipment to cut, bend or straighten sheet metal
- Fasten metal seams and use welding equipment to join sheets of metal
- Install and repair sheet metal products
- Ensure installations confirm to specifications and building codes

Entrance Requirements
Grade 12 with no modified classes or GED 12. Applicants who do not meet these requirements can enroll in the IXL upgrading program through Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.
Apprenticeship Program:
Includes 4 levels of technical and on-the-job training and interprovincial exam. Each level requires 8 weeks of technical training plus 1,500 hours on-the-job training. Red Seal Journeyperson status awarded after successful completion. As an apprentice, you also earn while you learn.
